Anthony Volpe to be out of lineup Tuesday
Yankees’ top prospect set to miss game with left quad tightness
Anthony Volpe, the top prospect in the New York Yankees organization, will be out of the lineup Tuesday with left quad tightness, manager Aaron Boone announced. Boone said after Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles that the injury is not considered serious and that Volpe is day-to-day.
Volpe has been one of the most impressive players in the Yankees’ system this season, batting .307/.389/.517 with 14 home runs and 21 stolen bases at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The 20-year-old shortstop was added to the 40-man roster in November and is expected to compete for a starting spot in the majors next season. Volpe’s absence from the lineup Tuesday will give other prospects a chance to impress, including Oswald Peraza and Derek Dietrich.
The Yankees are off on Wednesday before opening a three-game series in Philadelphia on Thursday.
Boone said he is hopeful that Volpe will be able to return to the lineup by the weekend. Volpe is one of the most highly touted prospects in baseball and his absence from the lineup will be a blow to the Yankees’ Triple-A team.
The Yankees are currently in first place in the AL East, but they have been dealing with a number of injuries lately. Several players have been battling injuries this season including Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, and Matt Carpenter.
The Yankees are hoping to get healthy and make a run at the World Series this year. Volpe’s injury is a setback, but the Yankees are confident that he will be back soon and help them achieve their goals.
