Tennis legend Serena Williams has announced her retirement from the sport after a glittering career spanning over two decades. The 23-time Grand Slam champion played her final match at the US Open in New York on Friday, losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round.

Williams, 40, has been a dominant force in women's tennis, winning her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 1999. She has since won 23 major titles, including seven Wimbledon crowns and six Australian Open titles.

In addition to her Grand Slam success, Williams has also won 14 WTA 1000 titles and four Olympic gold medals. She is widely considered to be one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
